Bundi feels a world away from Kota, yet it is close enough to reach before the morning has properly started. It is the trip we would suggest first to anyone new to the Hadoti region.
Morning: the palace and Chitrashala
Go straight to Bundi Palace. It climbs the hillside above the town, and its Chitrashala holds some of the finest murals in the region. The approach is steep, so comfortable shoes matter.
Midday: Taragarh or the old town
If you have the energy and the day is cool, continue up to Taragarh Fort for wide views. If not, the old town below is pleasant to explore on foot.
Afternoon: stepwells and the lake
Bundi is often called a city of stepwells, and Raniji ki Baori is the one to see. Finish at Nawal Sagar, whose water reflects the palace in the late light.
Practical tips
A round-trip taxi with waiting is usually the simplest way to do this, since it leaves you free to take your time.
- Start early, especially in warm months
- Carry water for the climb
- Check timings locally before you set out
Questions
Yes for the highlights. Stay the night if you want a slower pace and evening light on the lake.
