Rajasthan is bigger than it looks on a map. The most common planning mistake is trying to see too much, so start with the time you have and build the route from there.
Step 1: Pick a direction
Kota is on the south-eastern side of the state, so treat Rajasthan as a set of loops rather than one giant circuit.
The Mewar loop
Chittorgarh, Udaipur and optionally Mount Abu. Kota to Udaipur route
The royal north
Jaipur, Ajmer, Pushkar and Jodhpur. Kota to Jaipur route
Step 2: Set a realistic pace
Allow two nights in larger cities, and try not to change hotels every night. Road time is rarely the same as the time on a map, once you add meals, stops and traffic.
Step 3: Choose the season
October to March is the classic season for sightseeing. Summer suits Mount Abu, and the monsoon brings out the green of Hadoti and Mewar.
Step 4: Sort out the vehicle
Keeping the same car for the whole trip is simpler than arranging transport at every stop. Share your dates, route and group size so the agency can suggest the right option.
